Course Repairs

In the last few days we have started to repair some of the areas damaged by the extremely wet weather, we experienced this summer.

On the 1st & 3rd fairways a number of areas have been hollow cored, over-seeded and top-dressed with sand.

We have also excavated and repaired a number of damaged drains on the 14th fairway.
These areas have been backfilled with gravel and top soiled, ready for re-turfing next week.

Course Update

Blogging Resumes

After the wettest summer in over 100 years the recent dry and windy weather has been most welcome.
The drier weather has enabled the staff to present both courses to a very high standard, well done to all the staff.
Also, the improved conditions has meant (at long last) we have also been able to dramatically reduce the tasks on the  “to do list”.

Over the coming months we will be repairing the damage caused by the water logging of the turf on fairways and rough areas.
Some areas in play will require re-turfing, whilst other areas will be hollow cored, seeded and sand top-dressed.

On greens no 10,11,12,13 & 14 we have seen an increase in moss coverage, which is associated with waterlogged or poorly drained soils.
We have already commenced remedial work on these greens to reduce the moss content and create conditions more favourable for the grass plant to re-colonise.

Looking ahead to next month, we hope to start hollow coring and top dressing greens, week commencing October 8th on Murrayfield and October 22nd on Ravelston.
