Safety Footway Matting

We are at present installing non-slip, impact absorbing, safety footway matting on a number of areas on the golf course.

The safety rubber matting was primarily designed for children’s play areas and playgrounds but over the last few years it has been used on a number of golf courses throughout the UK.

The rubber safety matting is simply pegged to the ground, allowing the grass to grow through the mesh apertures creating a natural grass finish whilst offering the benefits of a safety non-slip surface below.

The rubber matting protects the crown of the grass plant below and prevents total turf plant loss, hopefully, this should help in preventing many of these areas becoming so muddy and slippery.

Drainage 16th Hole - Update

The drainage contractors have now completed excavation works on the new drainage outlet from the 16th fairway.
The final section of pipework has now been lowered into position and at long last drainage water is now flowing freely away from the 16th fairway.

In the picture below you can see clearly see stagnant water flowing from the old mains pipework, indicating that the old mains pipe has had a restricted flow, probably  for a number of years.

Drainage 16th Fairway

Since the contractors have returned from the Christmas break they have made excellent progress.
They have now installed and backfilled over 130 meters of pipe-work and provided the weather holds the final 50 meters should be completed by the end of next week.

Happy New Year

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members of both courses, a healthy and happy 2012.

 Storm Damage

The recent storm on January 3rd caused extensive damage to a number of trees on both golf courses, with gusts of 102mph being recorded on Blackford Hill.

Although we have commenced clearing the fallen debris and making safe a number of trees on both courses, because of the extremely wet ground conditions it may be some time before we can uplift all the debris.
